Why Was it so Unstoppable?

The Perfect Conditions For a Historic Fire

On January 7, 2025, multiple blazes erupted all across Los Angeles County. With ferocious Santa Ana winds reaching speeds of 80-100 mph in L.A., embers carried miles ahead of the established fire in every direction, quickly igniting homes faster than crews could respond. Firefighters were forced to focus on saving lives, leaving tens of thousands of structures exposed. It was a scenario so many had feared, but few had really thought possible: a powerful combination of extreme natural conditions that resulted in a catastrophe.

“Many factors contributed to the destruction in Pacific Palisades, including extreme winds hitting a neighborhood full of vegetation,
with homes in proximity to each other, and surrounded by dry brush.”
